The USD 497 Farm 2 School program is committed to a future in which students of all backgrounds become knowledgeable, healthy adults who have access to nutritious produce, support local food systems, steward the natural world, and contribute to a diverse, thriving community. We advance our mission by integrating a broad-based curriculum that promotes fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion by connecting with nature and promoting wellness.Over the course of the last 6 school years, the program has helped provide over 50 tons of local produce to the school cafeterias, supported 21 school gardens, and hosted more than 5,000 students during experiential learning experiences.
Lawrence USD 497 is currently home to 14 elementary school raised garden beds and 4 middle school production gardens. Four more outdoor learning classrooms are growing at the Lawrence College & Career Center, East Heights School, Lawrence High School, and Free State High School.
Thanks to numerous grants, donations, and district budget support, the Farm 2 School program boasts a staff of 27 educators. To learn more about the USD 497 Farm 2 School program or if you would like to get involved, contact Megan Gladbach or Denise Johnson.
